IoT Water Management Prototype

Consultant, Government of Sierra Leone · Nov 2018 – Dec 2018

Sierra Leone's damaged water-supply infrastructure left remote tank operators and drivers with no visibility into 10,000L tank levels or fault conditions, requiring manual, unreliable physical checks.

// Approach

  • Designed and self-funded an IoT water-level monitoring system (ESP32, Raspberry Pi 3, SIM800C GSM/GPRS) sending human-readable SMS alerts on threshold and fault conditions, in partnership with Sierra Leone's Directorate for Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI)
  • built the control-station backend (InfluxDB, Grafana/Kibana) for remote status polling and visualisation
  • later refined the design with a non-contact liquid-level sensor and a consolidated GPRS microcontroller for improved scalability

// Outcome

  • Real-time SMS alerting for 10,000L tank thresholds and faults
